Ford Taurus

The Power of Advanced Technology

Advanced Ford powertrain technology comes in all three Taurus engine choices. The 2.0L EcoBoost® I-4 option has best-in-class fuel economy.* The result is 4-cylinder efficiency and impressive V6 power. The standard 3.5L Ti-VCT V6 engine in Taurus SE, SEL and Limited models is now equipped with the performance and efficiency benefits of twin independent variable camshaft timing. And there’s the Taurus SHO with its 3.5L EcoBoost V6 engine and unique sport-tuned suspension system – an exhilarating experience for the driving enthusiast who craves V8 power but desires V6 economy.** Advanced engineering also optimizes steering and braking for added agility and control.

3.5L Ti-VCT and 3.5L EcoBoost® Engines

The standard 3.5L Ti-VCT V6 features advanced technology to deliver the performance you expect as well as an EPA-estimated rating of 29 mpg highway fuel economy.* Twin independent variable camshaft timing (Ti-VCT) controls when the valves open and close to enhance overall performance. Ti-VCT also enables variable valve overlap for improved fuel economy. Taurus SHO is powered by the 3.5L EcoBoost® V6. EcoBoost combines two different technologies – turbocharging and direct-injection – to deliver V8 performance along with V6 fuel economy.** It generates 365 horsepower and 350 lb.-ft. of torque across a wide 1,500-5,000 rpm range.

Unique Sport-Tuned Suspension

Taurus SHO features a suspension with unique sport-tuned shock absorbers, springs, stabilizer bars and strut mount bushings. These components are specifically engineered to deliver impressive road holding, cornering agility and steering responsiveness. The rear suspension is a multilink design that increases suspension travel for enhanced dynamic control and ride quality.

6-Speed SelectShift® Automatic with Shifter Button Activation

Taurus SE, SEL and Limited models feature the 6-speed SelectShift automatic transmission with shifter button activation that lets you override automatic operation and enjoy the sporty performance feel of a manual with total control over gear selection. The Taurus SHO has a 6-speed SelectShift automatic transmission with steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters, so you can easily and quickly change gears.

Electric Power-Assisted Steering

The standard electric power-assisted steering (EPAS) can enhance fuel efficiency because the system is powered by an electric motor instead of a hydraulic pump that draws power from the engine. What’s more, since it is speed-sensitive, EPAS can help correct for road irregularities and improve steering feel. EPAS also features “pull-drift” compensation, a technology that helps you offset vehicle pulling or drifting that can occur in steady crosswinds or on uneven roads.

Torque Vectoring Control and Curve Control

Torque Vectoring Control and Curve Control, standard on all the Taurus models, are two innovative enhancements to AdvanceTrac® with electronic stability control (ESC).
Torque Vectoring Control transfers torque to the wheels that have the most grip. It uses braking to adjust the speed between the front wheels while you’re accelerating through a corner, forcing the front end to hug the inside of the curve and provide a better grip. Torque Vectoring Control creates a firm connection to the road that’s assuring to every driver. Curve Control will slow you down when it senses that you’re going too fast into a particular curve. Employing throttle reduction and 4-wheel braking intervention, it’s always active in helping you maintain control.

  • *Remember that even advanced technology cannot overcome the laws of physics. It’s always possible to lose control of a vehicle due to inappropriate driver input for the conditions.
